Record the public channel state before hiding it
Save your channel URL, representative video and playlist links, and the current visibility of material that matters to your audience. If the channel has a business or team role, identify the Google Account or Brand Account that controls it. Hiding the channel changes how it appears publicly, so the starting state must be recorded from the viewer side, not only inside YouTube Studio.
Keep original video files, thumbnails and any creator records independently. The hiding workflow is not a substitute for having your own archive.
Test what a signed-out viewer can see
After YouTube confirms the hide request, open a private or signed-out browsing session. Check the saved channel, video and playlist URLs and compare them with your pre-hide record. An authenticated creator dashboard may display information that the public can no longer reach; use the external view to test whether the change met your actual goal.
If another person or service links to the channel, record those dependencies so you can address broken public links or paused publishing workflows.
Keep a separate reactivation plan
Hiding is intended as an alternative to permanent deletion, but a later return still needs the right Google Account and any relevant channel ownership access. If you later re-enable the channel, YouTube notes that view counts may be inaccurate for a period while they update, so do not use an immediate count comparison as the only restoration check.
Permanent deletion has a different consequence: YouTube says it permanently removes channel content such as videos, comments, messages, playlists and history, while leaving the underlying Google Account intact. If you are uncertain which outcome you want, the decision boundary is simple: choose hiding for a reversible visibility pause; choose deletion only after the material you need has been exported and you intend the channel content itself to be removed.
